New Iraq Approach

November 8, 2006

Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation today is indication that the Bush Administration will indeed go ahead with a new approach in its Iraqi policy, possibly an exit strategy. This, of course, is what made the headlines a few weeks ago, with statements later retrieved in a last-ditch effort to salvage the elections.

With a Democratic Congress, pursuing the same strategy as in recent years would be unsustainable. Also, the Republican Party now has to reinvent itself to reassure voters that they still can get the job done. With the Iraq War being one of the core issues that hurt the GOP, the Iraqi strategy will be reassessed.

More major changes are sure to follow in the next two weeks.
