Iran Ready to Talk

November 17, 2006

Ali Larijani has signaled Iran’s readiness to negotiate about the nuclear program. Like North Korea, however, Larijani has made it clear that Iran will not halt its nuclear program as a condition to talk.

It would be pointless for Iran to halt its nuclear program and then start negotiations: the existence of the program is what makes Iran’s position in the negotiations a favourable one.

The US is unlikely to enter negotiations with the current situation.
